Dear Prospective Member:

I would like to introduce you to the Marblehead Yacht Club, and invite you to become a member.

The Marblehead Yacht Club provides its members access to their boats and the harbor at a reasonable cost, and provides members an opportunity to socialize with others who share an interest in boats and the sea. The club, which was founded in 1878 and has occupied is present building since that date, is the oldest yacht club in Marblehead. The MYC was the first yacht club in Marblehead to admit women as members (1938), the first to have a woman flag officer (1975) and has never practiced discrimination for race, religion or any other reason.

Club dues are the lowest of any yacht club in Marblehead because the club is in sound financial condition and because many members volunteer their time and skills in the operation of the club. Members with and without boats are welcome, but most of our members own boats, and these vary from a 10 foot row boat to a 50 foot sailboat.

New members are welcome. Membership is easy to establish - just fill out an application. There is no sponsor, interview or other procedure required.

Membership includes:
  • Launch service from early May to late October from our private dock to your yacht in an area from the Causeway to a boundary defined by Tuckers Wharf to the Pleon Yacht Club. We believe that our launch service is the best on the harbor.
  • Use of the clubhouse, deck, floats with water and electric service. In spite of the fact that we have approximately 350 members, on many pleasant summer days and evenings you can have the clubhouse and the deck nearly to yourself. The club is available for personal functions of members - it is a wonderful place in which to celebrate a special event.
  • Excellent food service at reasonable prices is available on Friday evenings, weekends and holidays from June to September.
  • Club events such as wine tasting, cookouts, a sailboat race, a fishing tournament, and periodic social events are scheduled throughout the season.
  • You can take advantage of our reciprocal agreements with other yacht clubs when cruising or traveling. Typically, clubs with which we have reciprocal agreements provide our members use of their facilities at no charge.

The fee schedule for a new member is:
  • Membership fee of $435.00
  • Initiation fee of $200.00
  • Pre-paid food card $45.00
  • Club burgee $15.00
  • Total first year cost is $695.00
In each subsequent year of membership, the annual cost is $435 plus a pre-paid food card of $45. The prepaid card can be used at any time during the season in our galley. Each member is also assessed a $70 per year work assessment. Members who volunteer up to eight hours of time in the operation of the club are refunded the work assessment fee.

Membership Application Form

Multiple owners of a single boat are welcome under a Partnership program in which one partner pays the regular annual membership fee plus the initiation fee, food assessment and Club burgee with the each additional partner paying only an annual membership fee ($332.50) and food assessment fee ($45.00). The partner is also assessed a $70 work assessment.

All of us at the MYC are very enthusiastic about our club and would love to tell you more about it.

Please feel free to call the MYC at 781-631-9771 and ask for our Club Manager, Stephen G. Karger or email him. Or, visit the Club and ask any member you find there.

Sincerely,

William "Bill" Betters
