About the event

From the 1940s-1970s, the U.S. Government created a dumping ground in Massachusetts Bay for construction debris, derelict vessels, munitions, and various toxic wastes, including low-level radioactive material. In 2000’s safety concerns arose when hazardous waste was covered with dredging material from Boston Harbor. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency worked together to solve this massive and delicate problem. Environmental expert Steve Wolf explains the history of this immense undertaking, which was completed in 2020.
